The wood of the walnut tree is not only highly prized in piano making. Thanks to its properties and attractive dark colouring, it is also used to make furniture, inlays, and chess pieces. Connoisseurs of luxury cars also appreciate it as an interior wood in vehicle construction.
With its lively grain and striking pattern, walnut is one of the finest and most decorative native woods. It is also very hard, dimensionally stable, and resistant. To further protect the wood from water, its surfaces are sealed with oil. The resulting soft lustre is a desired and beautiful side effect.
